Growing up, Cameron always wanted to learn martial arts but didn’t know where to start. A high school friend introduced him to AKA, where his martial arts journey began. Just two years into training, Cameron started coaching to help out, and this naturally evolved into a passion for teaching.
Cameron identifies his first day of training as the biggest challenge he had to overcome. Walking through the door for the first time required courage, but from there, it was all about consistency and hard work. This lesson has shaped his approach to life and martial arts.
For Cameron, the most rewarding part of being an instructor is watching students grow in confidence. Seeing someone start with limited skills and transform into a competent practitioner through hard work and perseverance is incredibly fulfilling.
“BJJ taught me that if you’re willing to set a goal and work hard, you can surprise yourself with what you can accomplish,” Cameron says. His advice to students: “Enjoy the process more than you focus on the goal.”
